The Dharma Fellowship of His Holiness the Gyalwa Karmapa now has a Sangha (a group of individuals who join together as a community for the practice of meditation and yoga) in Vancouver, B.C., Canada. This group is an extension of the Hermitage on Denman Island, largely made up of people who have been to the Hermitage and who value the meditation and yoga retreats that take place there. Our doors are open to all who wish to come and practice meditation together.
We have found that our continued practice of meditation and yoga as a group, entirely in an atmosphere of open inquiry without particular sectarian boundaries, is of significant personal benefit to each one of us. We also believe that working in this way, collectively practicing meditation bi-monthly together, we make the world a little bit of a better, happier and more meaningful place. As a simple gathering of meditation practitioners, we sincerely hope, that in some small way, through our collective practice, we are of benefit to the society in which we live and to all sentient beings in general.
The Vancouver Meditation Centre meets every 1st and 3rd week of the month, to enjoy a brief social time with tea and light snacks, followed by a meditation session that is usually of 40 minutes or so long. Leaving quietly after finishing, we aim to sustain the deep calm and other benefits attained during the session.
The primary teacher of meditation instruction for the Vancouver Meditation Centre is Lama Rodney Devenish (aka Kunzang Palden Rinpoche) with whom the group meets frequently during the year. The Centre warmly welcomes new members. Should you wish to join, please contact Yuel Yawney, the facilitator of the Centre at firstname.lastname@example.org or phone 778-960-0772.
